The Blog

It wouldn’t be a British summer without Pimm’s, barbecues, smatterings of rain and beach trips to the coast. But it certainly wouldn’t be summer without garden parties popping up all over the country, with the most notable hosted by the Royal family. Buckingham Palace is the backdrop to multiple garden parties each year, celebrating achievements of public service workers and people who have positively impacted their communities. Following custom, tea, sandwiches and cake are served, but in astronomical proportions: 27,000 cups of tea gives you an idea of how much us Brits consume, even in hot weather! As much as you may aspire or wish to host a Royal-inspired garden party, it is quite a formal affair and you can easily obtain a similar result, minus the Queen but adding more relaxed fun.

A tradition that is ingrained in the very fibre of our country, garden parties merge tame chic-ness with old-school games, made even more entertaining with the addition of socially acceptable daytime drinking. You can’t go wrong with an iced jug of Pimm’s, but wine, especially a light rosé can set the tone and prove a popular choice.

But first and foremost, the venue is key to a successful garden party. As the name indicates, a garden is usually the blank canvas needed. However, if you’re dying to host a garden party or if the weather ruins your plans, you can always relocate inside a barn or spacious room, allowing you to decorate adequately and play games.

Decoration is usually floral themed and pastel, in which you can include porcelain cake stands, birdcages, bunting, lace table cloths and striped deckchairs. However, the beauty of the garden party is that you can theme it however you like: make it quirkier with an Alice in Wonderland theme; go fifties for a vintage party; fairytale and legends could work if you’re hosting children (or adults!); minimalist and stripped back with muted colours and chic floral arrangements, or even pet friendly with doggie treats and games!

A good garden party in my opinion transports you to a bubble of fun and letting go of every day life. That’s why I’m partial to games that bring out everyone’s inner child. Croquet would be the first to come to mind, but incorporating a fun fair section, with a coconut shy; hoops and darts will delight your guests. A game that could be particularly successful is one I encountered at a fun fair in Surrey last year. Essentially, it consists of throwing palm-sized balls at shelves of plates, glassware and miscellaneous breakable items a few metres away. It may sound quite basic, but I can guarantee that it was the game that I preferred that day, trying to score points smashing the most things I could!

In summary, my advice for hosting a memorable garden party is: have a theme and carry it through to everything, including food; have fun, easy games; enjoy the fanfare of dressing up and hosting a great group of people, but most of all, enjoy letting go and relaxing with a glass of rosé in one hand and a cucumber sandwich in the other. After all, what could top that?

As the weather starts to freeze around us, I thought it would be appropriate to use the current mood to create a Winter Wonderland Party mood board.

Winter Wonderland Party - London Party Planner 001

You don’t need to wait for it to get cold outside to throw a party with this theme. It can be just as effective at another time of the year, as it can have the ability to transport guests to another world, which is a part of event planning anyway. However, creating this atmosphere in a winter month means that your guests get to enjoy the positive aspects of winter, instead of just having to put up with the slush, rain and cold wind.

So, if you are thinking of throwing a Winter Wonderland Party, the first thing you’ll need to do is decide what your vision of Winter is: Is it Scandi? Christmassy? Arctic? Or sparkly? I’ve gone for the Scandi chalet sort of inspiration for this one. Wanting to create a sort of apres-ski atmosphere where guests can eat, drink, chat and of course, dance away in front of a lovely warm fire! Always think of the details that create the main picture, as these are the elements that your guests will pick up on. These are the details that will transport your guests away from their everyday lives into a unique moment. Some of these details can be as simple as the lighting, the music and the smell.

Hello, everyone!

As this is my first blog post, I thought that I might start with an easy one; why I decided to become a planner. People often ask me why I made this career choice exactly one year ago, and I will explain it to you too in this post.

Growing up in Geneva, Switzerland as the eldest of two daughters, I always loved being in charge. I always wanted to boss my sister, my dog and even my parents around. Let’s say that I am naturally organised and a little bossy. As soon as I passed my Baccalaureate I wanted to move to a big city and being half British, London was an easy move. I moved here at 18, to study Marketing Communications, and after a successful Bachelor moved to Florence, Italy to study a Masters in Fashion Merchandising and Management. Yes, that’s right, I was aiming to have a career in Fashion, which I did.

Whilst I was studying in Florence for a year, I wanted to make sure that I would get a job ASAP upon my graduation. In order to ensure this, I had to get an internship or job part-time during my studies. This is when I met Valentina, who was running her own wedding planning business in Florence catering for the whole of Tuscany. We quickly got along and started working together on evenings and weekends. With her, within 6 months, we organised 3 weddings, each one very different in size and style. Little by little, after each wedding, I was aching for the adrenaline of the next one. The fact that you help create unforgettable memories – I was hooked on organising and planning events!

When I graduated, I got offered a position in luxury fashion in London and moved back here. I forged myself a strong career in Fashion Merchandising for 6 years, however, I continued to organise family events and weddings as a hobby, always thinking that one day I would maybe take the jump. That day finally arrived exactly one year ago, early February 2016. I left my last job in luxury fashion with no particular plan in mind, only with one big question: is now the moment to change my career?

After a couple of months reflection, I decided to take the plunge! Having no dependencies, except for my dog, this was the time to do it! I put together a business and financial plan, set out to create my website, my App (which will be launching end of April 2017), all of the financial, legal, insurance, trademark and all other aspects involved in creating your own company. After a lot of hard work and dedication, I can honestly say that I don’t regret a thing. It was the best decision I ever made! I am now, not only my own boss but also in a job that fits who I am and my motivations. I can put to work my natural talents and most importantly help you create unforgettable memories and bring your dreams to life!
