It’s undoubtedly the exhibition that has been on everyone’s lips (and Instagram feed) since it launched in February, and it’s definitely worthy of every accolade it’s received! What made the run-up to Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams even more special for us was our project with The Franklin London: allow me to elaborate.
Just before Christmas 2018, we partnered with The Franklin (in our opinion one of the BEST boutique hotels in London) to bring some of Dior’s magic to their pop up culinary experience project, in partnership with the V&A and running concurrently to the much sought-after exhibition.
Our work included tastings with the chefs and their marketing team (it was almost impossible to narrow down the menu!); sourcing objects and designing the overall look and feel of the tea. When we were coming up with ideas, it definitely helped that Charlotte had worked for Dior and knew every single code of the Maison, especially the significance of flowers, stars, perfume and various materials. We made sure to incorporate as much as possible on the guests’ tables, with our favourite elements including a clear Louis chair holding a macaron, a vintage perfume bottle containing Calvados to be sprayed on one of the desserts, and an eyeshadow palette brimming with delectable sablés. The chefs also made sure to incorporate classic flavours from French cuisine, such as ham and butter sandwiches, cheese and truffle, foie gras and strawberry, etc. Once the menu was narrowed down and the presentations of everything finalised, Emily (La Fête’s resident writer and all-around assistant) was tasked to come up with menu names for each dish, tying them back to Mr Dior’s personal life, career and legacy. We wanted to make sure that absolutely everything had a purpose and made sense: absolutely nothing was accidental.
As part of our partnership, we also spearheaded a photo and video shoot intended for press and more notably, social media, with Instagram being one of the major promotional tools at our disposal. As a follow up from our promotional shoot, we decided to launch the experience with a bang, by inviting just over a dozen high end influencers, with a combined following of approximately 1.5 million. The event was a huge success, with influencers posting organically on their feeds and stories, garnering massive exposure for our culinary experience.
Since then, our experience inspired by the eponymous exhibition at the neighbouring V&A has been a huge success and we couldn’t be prouder. Make sure to book directly with the hotel if you’d like to try it out by calling +44 (0)207 584 5533. It’s on until 1st September so be quick! Also head to The Pelham Hotel (+44 (0)207 589 8288), a 5 minute walk away from The Franklin in South Kensington, to experience our Mary Quant tea, running until February 2020 and as always tell us what you think, we love to hear from you.
