1. It’s a new year: leave last year’s negativity where it belongs.
Don’t drag any 2017 baggage along with you. Start with a clean slate and a positive outlook, you’ll be unstoppable.
2. Make a list of what you want to achieve professionally and personally and work towards ticking everything off before 2019.
I’m a stickler for lists, they help me stay organised and there’s nothing better than ticking something off it. Visualising your goals on paper will also make them more manageable and real, thus more achievable.
3. Spend time with family and loved ones: make memories!
It’s easy to discount family time as something non-essential, but make efforts to visit your relatives and get to know them better. Also set aside time with your partner, friends and whomever brings you happiness.
4. Travel as much as you can.
Travel is one of the biggest gifts and privileges in this world. Pledge to discover new places and actually book them: don’t just talk about it!
5. Promise to be honest and always communicate as best you can.
For everyone’s benefit, especially your wellbeing, be as truthful as you can and always communicate as candidly as possible. Your relationships will massively benefit.
6. Take care of your health, both mental and physical.
Listen to your mind, body and soul. If you’re struggling mentally, find help as soon as you can and speak about your ordeal: you’re never alone. Channel energy into taking care of your body too, whether it’s working out regularly or treating yourself to regular massages: do it.
7. Live in the moment and cherish the present.
Don’t hold on to the ‘what ifs’ of the past and the ‘maybes’ of the future. Enjoy the moment and let anxiety drift away. You’re doing fine and you deserve to savour every moment of your life!
8. Do something that scares you/challenges you on a regular basis.
Do step out of your comfort zone, whether it’s something small every week or something bigger every month. Challenge yourself to something new and trust me, you’ll learn a lot about yourself and just how badass you are.
9. Take a social media break: find the right time in the year to detox from the online world.
If you have a holiday planned, think about a social media/smartphone detox during that time. The world will not end if you don’t update Instagram, so kick back, relax and work on your IRL relationships.
10. Read more: get lost in your favourite books again and discover new ones.
I’m often guilty of not reading enough, with my excuse being that I have no time! But instead of bingeing on Netflix, snuggle up with a book and rediscover the joys of reading and the power of your unlimited imagination.
