I’ve always loved different kinds of food. I can’t think of anything better than sampling or making new things. I’m from quite a foodie family and even though my fiancé and I enjoy cooking at home, going out is always a treat that I’ll never turn down. You’ll actually see through this post that a lot of my all time favourite meals are also great for events and parties, as what I love is sharing moments with others and food invariably accomplishes that. Read all about my favourite food below…
I’m going to start off quite classically, but sushi is definitely a go-to for me. You can eat it on the go, at a restaurant, at a party… Infinite possibilities not just in the way of eating it but also in what you can eat. I’m quite traditional and usually opt for salmon and tuna nigiri and maki, but also throw in some tempura rolls for good measure and if I’m feeling indulgent, some gyoza and chicken katsu. There’s definitely something for everyone, even if they don’t eat fish, which is why it’s a great meal to choose for events, as well as portions being personally tailored by each individual.
Similarly to the social aspect of sharing sushi platters, I’m also fond of charcuterie and cheese boards. Not only does cheese improve almost everything in my opinion, but adding cured meats, a flaky and buttery baguette and stuffed olives makes it a plentiful meal that’s sure to satisfy. Sometimes I prepare that as my dinner, but sharing it with friends is so much more fun, especially when accompanied by wine. Speaking of which, let me take this opportunity to wax lyrical about one of my favourite beverages: rosé.
Even though I also appreciate red wine a great deal, rosé is for me the most refreshing and enjoyable to drink, particularly rosés that are more on the grey side of the spectrum than bright pink. Summer seems to make rosé taste even better and is the perfect accompaniment to barbecues. Case in point: cheeseburgers. The beauty of the humble cheeseburger is that it can be reinvented almost constantly. My favourite offering is a prime cut of meat ground down for the patty, Monterey Jack cheese, tomato and bacon held together by a seeded brioche bun (lettuce optional). Generally, I prefer it accompanied by skinny fries or shoestring fries: the crispier the better.
When it comes to my favourite food, if I don’t go for a cheeseburger at a barbecue, I make a beeline for the salad selection. Eschewing the classic Iceberg lettuce mixed with various vegetables, I always go for tomato and mozzarella. Simple yet effective, the basil leaves and balsamic vinaigrette pack a punch and leave you longing for more.
And last but certainly not least: dessert. I’m not a huge dessert lover but I’ll invariably opt for a cheesecake or churros if either is available: just enough to satisfy my tiny sweet tooth but also an indulgence that I savour every second of. If I had to list all my favourite foods, this blog post would probably turn into a book, but as you can see, don’t think that you can’t serve your favourite foods at events because they’re not sophisticated enough. They can be as simple as you like, as long as the ingredients are of great quality, and believe me, everyone will have a great time and a full tummy.
